Spring exhibitions: flowers, nature and secret gardens
It's springime again, and while the sun starts to shine, there are different kinds of exhibitions where contemporary artists show work inspired by nature, plants and flowers.
Edward Clydesdale Thomson (at Secret Gardens, Tent Rotterdam)
Elspeth Diederix (at flowerCastle, Kasteel Keukenhof)
Like Secret Gardens, that opens april 5th in TENT Rotterdam. Fifteen artists take nature as a symbol of longing for beauty, mystery and aesthetics in new works that focus on introspection, emotion, spontaneity and imagination. With work by Edward Clydesdale Thomson (PdR longlist 2011), who previously researched Scandinavian landscape and English gardens.
Other work by Clydesdale Thomson is on view at flowerCastle, a large
group exhibition at the recently renovated Castle Keukenhof. The castle is situated in the middle of the 'bollenstreek', famous for their flowers amongst many tourists. flowerCastle is curated by Gijs Stork and shows a selection of fashion, design and art that is inspired by flowers and nature. Often the pieces are related to the decorated interior of the castle. With works by amongst others Viviane Sassen (winner Prix de Rome 2007) and Elspeth Diederix (winner Prix de Rome 2002).
